About Thomasina Coates
Thomasina Coates is a native of Charles County, born and raised having deep roots and ties to the county going back to Colonials and Generals. She is married and lives in White Plains, MD with her husband of 35 years. She has two daughters, and two granddaughters.
Thomasina attended Charles County public schools from preschool all the way to high school where she graduated from Maurice J. McDonough High School, Pomfret, MD. She went on to graduate with an Associate’s of Art degree from College of Southern Maryland in Charles County. She obtained her Bachelors of Science degree in Information Technology from University of Maryland, University College. She also attended University of Maryland University College, obtaining her Masters of Science degree in Information Technology Management.
Thomasina was elected in 2018, currently serving as Charles County Commissioner, representing District 2. She has over 30 years in the Information Technology workforce, serving as an Information Technology Manager for the Federal government. She is an entrepreneur, following in the footsteps of her business savvy parents. Thomasina is the President/CEO of TTI Enterprise, LLC a successful minority, woman owned trucking company located in White Plains, MD and she also owns Coates Estates, LLC a real estate rental and property management company.
Thomasina is a member of and serves on several local and regional boards across the Southern Maryland region: Waldorf Business Association, NAACP, Chair of the Southern Maryland Tri-County Community Action Committee Board of Directors, and Vice Chair of the Tri-County Council Executive Board. She serves as a Commissioner liaison on the Area Council on Aging, College of Southern Maryland Unity in Our Community Diversity Forum Planning Committee, and MACO Tax subcommittee. She also serves on the South Potomac COMREL, Commuter Ferry Stakeholders Group, Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (COG), and Charles County Homeless & Emergency Shelter Committee. Thomasina served as the Chair of the Charles County Board of License Commissioner (Liquor Board), 2010 - 2018 and as the Regional Vice President of the Southern Maryland Minority Chamber. She is also proud to have served as the Data Coordinator for Charles County, Obama for America (OFA) in 2012; and served as a member of the Waldorf Rotary Club. She was elected and served as the Vice Chair of the Charles County Democratic Central Committee, 2014 - 2018, and currently serving as a member.
Thomasina has accomplished a lot to move Charles County forward in such a short period of time, but her work is certainly not done. She is humbled and honored to have had the privilege of serving you, her community.
